My Musings [and Muses]

Marrakesh: and a tale of sadness and color

I was out with friends this weekend, when I remembered. A time long, long ago. A dark time. A time when everything seemed drab, and, well, hopeless. My world for some months seemed color-free.

Someone reached out to me then and helped me.  It's been two decades since but I will never forget his act of kindness.

If you are traversing one of those times yourself, I want you to know that I know.  I remember what that's like even after all these years.

This post is for you.  I give you...color. I hope it finds a way to creep into your grey.

Marrakech: and a tale of rejection

Her website said to Say Hello!  Her website said to Hire them!  Her website said that she had a Team of  People to help those who were Just like me.  But her email said something different.  It said something like this:

I’m sorry but we are not taking on additional projects.  However, if you tell us more about yourself, perhaps we’ll reconsider.

And so I did.  I listed my qualifications, I sent my bio, I sent my links, I sent my photo.  I said Oh Please. And then I waited.

And then I got an email back that said something like this (although perhaps a bit was just in my head):

Thank you for your additional information.  We have reviewed it, and we have decided that you are not right for us.  We do not want to build your shop website.  However, here is a list of some others that do work like we do.  Please note that we do not know these people, and we do not know their work.  {But maybe they will take someone like you.}

And there I was left feeling like the frog who had slipped into the pool.  The one who was not as good as the real people who deserved to be in the cool blue waters.

No.  Nowhere near good enough.

Marrakech: and a tale of Laurence Landon's Party

Oh, there was a party in Marrakech at the home of French Maker-of-Beautiful-Objects Laurence London, right in front of the Majorelle Gardens.

Talented friends arrived and settled in.

Then Laurence gave us all presents! Signed prints & CDs!

L2
There was appreciation.

L4
And then there was delicious food served on Laurence's shimmering mirrored trays!

L3
And platters of cheese from Paris!

L11
Laurence's lights made everything look like magic!

L10
And as if all of that was not enough, we got to play! Laurence had brought glimmery glass tiles from her atelier.

L8
And we made our own little shimmering plaques!

L6
Oh, we had seen beautiful memories on Laurence's walls....

L9
But perhaps the best ones, were the ones we took with us...
