I've been spending a lot of time in Mali these days. Find out the real reason why in this blog post.
Bamako, Mali: and a tale of Malian photographer Malick Sidibé
I have many inspirations. One of them is Malick Sidibe. He has a body of astonishingly visual work, so full of life. Let me show you, so you, too, can be inspired......
Bamako, Mali: and a tale of Africa
I was born in Africa all those years ago, and it was perhaps destiny that I would return to it. It's been 15 years since I've been back, living somewhere on the continent and working in more than a dozen countries. From Egypt to Rwanda, from Namibia to Tanzania, and from Morocco to Benin.
But the more I see, the more I want to see. The more I know, the more I want to know. Africa. Always fascinating, endlessly troubling, forever unforgettable.
This week, I'm in Mali. I took these pictures with my Lens Baby.
Africa: and a tale of sex and poison.
Mali: and a tale of life and laughter
Oh, I've been to many places........
But I have never been to a place where people laughed more than in Mali.
The kind of laughter where you have to wipe your eyes, not once but twice.
The kind of laughter that when you try to stop and speak, you just laugh again.
The kind of laughter where you (seriously) might fall sideways out of your chair.
It might seem slightly deranged if it weren't so adorable.
I love being around people who make it a priority to laugh, really laugh.
And I can't help but laugh, too. Hard.
